Stubborn Lady Vikes fall to title-minded Monarchs

November 13, 2012

The Lynbrook Lady Vikings, after an earlier playoff win against St. Ignatius, fell to Archbishop Mitty 4-0 in the CCS quarterfinals.

The Lady Vikes held up generally well on defense, but struggled to stop the Monarchs’ pinpoint passing which inevitably led to well-coordinated attacks and goals for Mitty.

In the first period, a goal by Agustina Singh, who was assisted by Courtney Hessler, and another by Desiree Dei Rossi (assist Singh) lifted the Monarchs to a 2-0 lead.

The Monarchs kept up the pressure in the second period with goals by Hessler (assist Kelsey Hideshima) and a final goal by Singh (assist Hessler).

Despite the team falling short, Lady Vikes coach Jenny Dumas was proud of how far the Vikings were able to go this season.

"It was a great season and we have a lot to be proud of," Dumas said. "Last year we only won five games and this year we came back and were 13-7-1. I think our girls worked extremely hard and I'm really proud of our seniors because they showed great leadership, so without them I don't think we could have gotten as far.”

Mitty now moves on in pursuit of a CCS title.

"We want to continue advancing in the CCS tournament and continue to play our style of play and execute our game plan,” said Monarch coach Justina Williams. “I'm very confident that we will be successful."
