Goldstein named new San Mateo baseball coach

July 27, 2015

Neal Goldstein has been named the new baseball coach at San Mateo High.

Goldstein is a Hillsdale grad who coached the Knight JV team last year. Before that he coached the Amador Valley JV team for five years.

“I am looking forward to coaching the San Mateo varsity baseball program and turning it into a program that the entire school and community are proud to be a part of,” Goldstein said via a news release.

Goldstein played baseball for coach Neal Dahlen at Hillsdale and also played for the powerhouse San Mateo American Legion team program that produced such pros as Barry Bonds and Joe Kmak (both from Serra).

Goldstein also played at Cal State University-Hayward.

A long-time resident of Foster City, Goldstein and wife Mollyann have a son, Nick, who is at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and a daughter Jennifer at Designs School of Cosmetology.

San Mateo went 7-17 last season under coach Nick Sanzeri, a former Bellarmine College Prep player. Sanzeri guided the Bearcats to a 20-30 overall record over two seasons. He resigned following the season.
