San Joaquin Memorial Class of 2022 defensive back TJ Hall impressed all the scouts and analysts on September 26 at the National Preps Collegiate Showcase in his own backyard at Granite Park in Fresno.
Hall had a very solid showing, good enough for him to be named the defensive backs Co-MVP by the National Preps coaches and staff
Then, just a few days later, and possibly as a result of his outstanding performance, Hall received his first offer from his hometown school, Fresno State.
“To get the offer from Fresno State was a blessing,” Hall said. “I felt great and was very thankful that my hometown school gave me my first opportunity to play at the next level.”
Hall said he’s been waiting for the opportunity to showcase his skills. He’s spent his quarantine getting better.
“It was great to get some work in especially at a camp,” Hall said. “I have been working all quarantine long but have not had the opportunity to be at tons of camps like usual but it was a great feeling to be out there.”
Showcase Field Director and National Preps Western Region Scout for Northern California, Paul Gregorian, saw Hall for the first time last season when San Joaquin Memorial played Serra in the CIF Northern California Regional championship.
“I was initially impressed with his size and combination of speed. Hall stands at 6-2, and displays great recovery speed along with having good high point ability, which is essential when it comes to interceptions,” Gregorian said.
“He’s going to explode,” Gregorian said. “I believe he’s going to have multiple power five offers when it is all said and done.”
Despite the award, Hall is aware there is still work to be done in order to become a better player.
“I am looking forward to improving my speed,” Hall said. “I feel like I can get faster and that will give me more of an advantage to my game once I become faster.”
Just like players from the rest of the CIF sections, Hall will need to await until January to play under the Friday night lights.
