SAN FRANCISCO, CA - Sacred Heart Cathedral is pleased to announce the appointment of alumnus Caesar Smith (1998) to the newly created role of Associate Athletic Director. Smith will work closely with Athletic Directors Phil Freed, a 1980 graduate, and Margi Beima to build on and advance the mission of academic and athletic excellence for all Fightin’ Irish student-athletes with a particular focus on the development of student leadership within SHC’s athletic program.
Smith brings a wealth of teaching, coaching and athletic administration experience to the role. After earning a Bachelor of Arts in American Multicultural Studies at Sonoma State University, he continued his education at the University of Southern California, earning a Masters of Arts in Post-Secondary Administration & Student Affairs. He is a Certified Athletic Administrator (CAA) through the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA) and a Double-Goal Coach through the Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA).
Over the past decade, Smith served in a variety of secondary school positions throughout the state of Texas. Caesar has taught US Government, Political Science and World Geography. He has served as an event and gym coordinator as well as a varsity basketball, swimming and diving coach. Based on his coaching ability, he has been selected to coach basketball all-star games, the inaugural NCAA College Basketball Academy, and earned District 25-26A Girls Dive Coach of the Year honors.
In every role, Smith has been a positive mentor both student-athletes and colleagues. “I agree wholeheartedly with SHC’s commitment to the Lasallian Vincentian Catholic mission to cultivate a culture of athletic excellence, service-oriented leadership, and positive sportsmanship. Having served as both a teacher and a coach for nine years, I am well aware that athletic success cannot be achieved without academic success, and I encourage all athletes to apply determination and hard work to their lives, both on the field and off,” Caesar says.
