Napa's Aaron signs with Cal

February 5, 2015

Wednesday was National Letter of Intent signing day across the land, and Napa High had one of it’s very own, Austin Aaron, sign with Cal.

There was a celebration in the Napa High learning center. Aaron's friends and family were in attendance for the big event for the three-star receiver. He has had many other offers from DI schools, including Michigan and San Jose State, as well as Ivy League Harvard and Yale and also Jacksonville State.

He’s now a third generation Golden Bear as his grandmother Peggy graduated from Cal. His dad Justin, a Napa High English teacher, played baseball at Cal.

In his career at Napa, Aaron played varsity football for three years where he thrived breaking the Napa records for most receptions in a season and in a career.

“There’s a very select few who have the drive to actually cash in, and he’s one of them,” Napa coach Troy Mott said of Aaron.

Austin also played basketball and baseball his freshman year, before doing track to improve his speed for football.

“It really was the opportunity to stay 50 minutes away from Napa, so my family can come watch me play on Saturdays," Aaron said. "I couldn’t give up that opportunity."

Napa football has now put three players in the PAC-12 over the past seven years. In the last seven years Napa sent John Boyett and Braden Eggert to Oregon.

Aaron plans to major in business.

“It's the No. 1 public university in the world," Aaron said. "I can’t give up that opportunity."
