"Between the Lines" debuts at Serra

September 30, 2014

In the opening episode of "Between the Lines: Serra Football", we are introduced to legendary head coach Patrick Walsh, who has won four West Catholic Athletic League and two Central Coast Section titles in 14 seasons at Serra. He also happens to be the all-time leading rusher at De La Salle, one of the most powerful high school football programs in the country.

Walsh explains the difference between intrinsic and extrinsic motivation and is concerned about his team's lack of attention to detail in the early going of training camp, as only 28 of the 52 players on the roster have handled all of their paperwork by day one.

Meanwhile, junior Hunter Bishop and sophomore Leki Nunn are taking the snaps at quarterback during training camp but Bishop, a transfer from St. Francis, is not eligible to play for the Padres until week 5 against St. Ignatius. The passing game is a little out of sync in the early stages.

With long snapper Peter Comorato out for the season, captain Soane Mafi takes on a new role. And in typical Serra fashion, Comorato is never far behind as he mentors his new pupil.
