Preparing Legends camp provides many benefits for young players

June 11, 2014

Three sessions, seven key components, a once in a lifetime experience.

"The Preparing Legends camp is a family environment [full of] lots of learning and fun," said co-host and Serra High School head baseball coach Craig Gianinno. Gianinno and his co-host Doug Williams both have past experience as elite high school and college baseball players, and continue to share their knowledge as coaches today.

For over 10 years, the Preparing Legends camp has provided the Bay Area community with the opportunity for youth baseball players to develop their skills and learn life lessons.

Located at the beautiful College of San Mateo baseball facility, players ages 7-12 have the privilege to learn and improve their baseball skills from knowledgeable college coaches and players.

"Our overall goal is to have each individual kid leave our camp feeling and believing that their skill set has improved not only as a baseball player, but with an impression that their character has [improved] as a young person as well," said Gianinno.

The camp not only provides a player with the skills to improve, but also how to deal with overcoming challenges and adversity in a difficult game.

"The joy you see on the faces when they are learning the fundamentals and are able to execute those into a game situation [is a priority]," said Williams, who has been the head baseball coach for College of San Mateo for around 20 years.

Not only do the participants of the camp get to experience live game situations, they also have the chance to take their progress home with a video of them complete with a coach's analysis in an audio voice over.

"This gives players the opportunity to take what they have learned at the camp and continue working on it long after the camp has ended," said Williams.

Focusing on pitching instruction, hitting instruction, defense and base running, intrinsic motivation, goal setting, nutrition for performance, and speed, agility and core strengthening, players will have the opportunity to advance their knowledge of baseball in all categories.

Successful and well organized, the Preparing Legends camp offers an almost complete coach to player ratio, the chance to play on a real college campus, and the chance to learn with players with the same passion for baseball as the they do.

The camp takes place on three set sessions: June 16-20, June 23-27, and July 7-11.
