Rose Hill completes amazing turnaround with third-place finish

June 2, 2014

The Rose Hill Rockets completed a great turnaround season Monday afternoon, capturing third place in the Kansas 4A Division state tournament with a 5-3 win over Fort Scott.

Rose Hill completed a 17-8 season, one year after finishing 5-14. The Rockets lost their bid to reach the finals earlier in the day with a 9-0 loss to De Soto, while Fort Scott was unable to overcome a series of errors in an 8-5 loss to Paola.

The Rockets started seven freshmen and sophomore in the third-place game, including right fielder Caydeon Gregory, who finished with two RBIs, and winning pitcher Griffin McBride. Rose Hill out-hit Fort Scott, 8-4, and committed just one error in support of McBride.
