Bay Area Baseball Top 25 Rankings

These are based on games played through May 17.

Last week’s rankings are in parentheses.

1. (2) St. Francis 25-4

The Lancers, after failing to win the round-robin title, won the WCAL playoffs with three convincing wins and outscored the opposition, 30-8. Sophomore Jeremy Ydens was 5-for-8 in the three games.

It’s difficult to put St. Francis in front of Mitty because of the Monarchs two head-to-head wins but the overall body of work for St. Francis is better.

St. Francis is the third seed in the CCS Open Division and will host 15-9 San Lorenzo Valley.

2. (1) Archbishop Mitty 22-6

The Monarchs WCAL quarterfinal loss to Sacred Heart Cathedral was shocking, considering Mitty had outscored the Irish, 21-0, in the two previous meetings.

In the first CCS Open Division playoffs, Mitty is the seventh seed and will host 17-12 Terra Nova on Wednesday.

3. (7) Bellarmine 23-7

The Bells beat Valley Christian, 10-8, in the WCAL semifinals before its 15-6 defeat to St. Francis in the championship. Matt Ross was 4-for-8 with five runs batted in during the WCAL playoffs.

The Bells are ranked higher than Valley Christian because it won two of three head-to-head meetings with the Warriors.

Bellarmine gets a No. 11 seed in the CCS Open and will play at Saratoga.

4. (3) Valley Christian-San Jose 20-9

The Warriors open the CCS Open Division playoffs as the fourth seed and will play 18-8 Soquel on Wednesday.

5. (4) San Ramon Valley 17-7

The Wolves finished in a three-way tie for first place but won the automatic bid thanks to its 4-0 record versus De La Salle and Amador Valley.

Connor Loar and Conor Neumann combined on a four-hitter at rival Monte Vista in a 2-0 win on Friday.

The Wolves are the top seed in the NCS playoffs and host 12-12 Pittsburg in the opening round.

6. (6) De La Salle 17-7

Junior outfielder Michael McAdoo is heating up with 11 hits in his last 28 at bats.

The Spartans earned the second seed in the NCS Division I playoffs and will host 15-9 Castro Valley on Wednesday.

7. (12) Amador Valley 16-8

Jordan Ott pitched another shutout against Cal and has allowed three earned runs over 29.1 innings heading into the postseason.

The Dons are the third seed in NCS Division I but will have to play at 20-6 San Leandro in Tuesday’s opening round.

8. (5) California 17-7

The Grizzlies head in to the NCS playoffs, losing four of its final five games.

Cal is the fourth seed in NCS Division I and will host 15-10 Berkeley, who has ace Noah Bremer.

9. (8) College Park 23-3

The Falcons impressively beat Clayton Valley, 3-1, for a third time this month behind a four-hitter from Joe DeMers.

College Park is the second seed in NCS Division II and will host 14-10 Cardinal Newman on Wednesday.

10. (9) Campolindo 20-4

The four-time NCS Division II champion Cougars are the top seed and will host 15-10 Casa Grande on Wednesday.

11. (10) Clayton Valley 22-4

The Ugly Eagles are the third seed in NCS and could meet College Park for a fourth time this month in the NCS Division II semifinals.

First, Clayton has to get by 16-8 Newark Memorial in the opening round.

12. (11) Serra 16-11

The Padres lost 3-1 to Bellarmine in the WCAL playoffs and now have to play at second-seeded San Benito in the CCS Open playoffs on Wednesday.

13. (13) Maria Carrillo 24-2

The Pumas take a 21-game win streak into the NCS playoffs and will be the fourth seed when it hosts 18-6 Northgate on Tuesday.

14. (14) Leigh 23-6

The Longhorns are the top overall seed in the CCS Open Division playoffs and will host 15-11-1 Carlmont on Wednesday.

15. (17) Granada 16-8

The Mats won its final two games against De La Salle and Livermore and have allowed just 24 runs over its last 10 games.

Granada is the fifth seed in NCS and will host 12-12 Dougherty Valley on Tuesday.

16. (16) San Benito 21-6

The Haybalers have scored 53 runs during its six-game win streak and Dylan Yamasaki is 11-for-19 with 13 runs batted in during that time.

San Benito is the second seed in the CCS Open but gets a very tough game against Serra in the opening round.

17. (19) Saratoga 21-9

The Falcons won the SCVAL playoffs after taking two of three games against Palo Alto and have scored 76 runs over its last eight games.

The Falcons are the sixth seed but have a very tough home game against Bellarmine in the CCS Open Division.

18. (15) Foothill 13-11

The Falcons dropped both games last week but are the sixth seed in NCS and will host 13-9 Deer Valley on Tuesday.

19. (24) Livermore 13-11

Thomas Triantos pitched a two-hitter versus San Ramon Valley in a 2-0 victory and will likely pitch the playoff opener.

In Division II, Livermore hosts 19-7 Petaluma in a Tuesday opening round game.

20. (25) Monte Vista 12-12

The Mustangs swept its season series with Foothill and earned a berth in NCS thanks to a .500 record.

Monte Vista is the ninth seed and will play at 16-10 Bishop O’Dowd on Wednesday.

21. (18) Leland 19-9

The Chargers are the eighth seed in the CCS Open and host 16-14 Palo Alto on Wednesday.

22. (23) Marin Catholic 19-6

The Wildcats are the fifth seed in the NCS Division II playoffs and will host 12-11-1 Alameda on Tuesday.

Marin Catholic has won seven in a row and scored 58 runs during that time.

23. (20) Los Gatos 23-9

The Wildcats are the fifth seed in the CCS Open and will host 18-8 Scotts Valley in the first round.

24. (21) Palo Alto 16-14

The Vikings play at Leland in the CCS Open Division first round in one of the better matchups of the week.

25. (22) Westmont 20-9

The Warriors eight-game win streak came to a halt with a 5-4 loss to Leigh but are the second seed in CCS Division I and will host 16-10-1 Milpitas in the first round on Thursday.
