Bellarmine Student-Athlete of the Month

April 10, 2014

Bellarmine sophomore forward Dylan Carrubba is the Student-Athlete of the Month for February for his effort in the Bells’ West Catholic Athletic League tournament championship run as well as their Central Coast Section Division I Playoff run.

Carrubba scored two late header goals in the WCAL championship game, leading the Bells to a 2-0 victory over Archbishop Mitty. Carrubba finished the season with six goals, three of which came against Mitty.

“The first one went in and it was pretty crazy, it almost didn’t feel real,” said Carrubba. “Then, I felt that I could clinch it, and after the second one it felt pretty nice, and I didn’t have to worry too much anymore about getting scored on, because we would still have the lead.”

The Bells finished off their season with an 18-3-5 record as co-champions of both the WCAL and CCS. They won 10 games in a row at the end of the season before tying with Watsonville in the section final, and ended the season as the third-ranked team in the Bay Area by Prep2Prep.

“It was pretty great for my first season on varsity,” said Carrubba. “Winning the WCAL is huge and feels pretty good.”
