NCS roundup: Heritage picks up first BVAL win, and more

November 4, 2017

Luke Lang’s 51-yard touchdown pass to Josh Wishom with eight minutes remaining in the game gave visiting Heritage a two-score lead over Deer Valley, and the Patriots held on for the 27-19 victory to pick up their first Bay Valley Athletic League win of the season.

Deer Valley quarterback Josh Scott scored on a one-yard run late in the game to cut into the lead, but with less than a minute to go, the Patriots (6-4, 1-4 BVAL) were able to recover the kickoff and run out the clock. It was Scott’s third rushing touchdown of the night.

Lang got Heritage on the board in the first quarter, on his four-yard touchdown run, and extended the lead to 15-0 by halftime when he connected with Hassan Williams on a 17-yard scoring pass and Aidan Quinn then ran in the two-point conversion. The Patriots pushed the lead to 21 points in the third quarter when Lang hit Daniel Simone for a 35-yard touchdown, before Deer Valley (2-7, 0-4) finally got on the board with three minutes to go in the third quarter.

Scott was nearly all of Deer Valley’s offense in the game, throwing for 188 yards while running for 157 yards and all three scores. Senior Jason Johnson had five catches for 179 yards for the Wolverines.

Jackson’s big night leads Foothill past Amador Valley

Seniors Ben Wooldridge and Jake Jackson made sure there would be no upset bids in this Pleasanton cross-town rivalry, leading his Falcons to a 40-13 victory over Amador Valley.

Wooldridge threw for three touchdowns, all of them to Jackson, who ran for a fourth score, as Foothill pulled away in the second half after leading just 20-7 after two quarters. His 17-yard touchdown strike to Jackson opened the scoring midway through the first quarter, giving the Falcons an early 6-0 lead. With just over five minutes to go in the second quarter, Foothill resorted to some trickery after Amador Valley’s Lucas Heverly notched what looked like a big sack for the Dons to create a 4th-and-18 situation. The Falcons ran a receiver pass, as Roman Sahagun connected with Josh Shields for a 32-yard touchdown and a 13-0 lead.

Amador Valley cut into the lead late in the second quarter, when Dominick Mazzotti hit Tommy Kramer for a 63-yard touchdown, but Wooldridge found Jackson for a 36-yard touchdown pass before the half. Early in the third quarter, Wooldridge and Jackson hooked up for a 35-yard gain down to the one-yard line, where Jackson then punched it in for the 27-7 lead. A few minutes later, the pair connected again, this time for a 15-yard touchdown to put the game out of reach.

Dublin routs rival Dougherty Valley

The battle between the two newest schools in the East Bay Athletic League was all Dublin on Friday night, as the Gaels raced past Dougherty Valley, 42-7, and positioned themselves for a possible top-10 seed in the upcoming Division I playoffs.

Quarterback Tre Hines completed 8-of-10 passes for 177 yards and two touchdowns, while senior Amari Tidwell ran for 151 yards and three touchdowns on just nine carries. Junior Deuce Davis had both receiving touchdowns.

Senior Jayden Clark was a standout on defense for the Gaels, racking up 20 tackles, including a tackle for a loss.

Fulp’s record night leads Northgate

Junior Jack Fulp threw for a school-record six touchdown passes to lead Northgate past Mt. Diablo, 42-8, as the Broncos completed the regular season at 7-2 overall.

All six of his scoring throws came in the first half, connecting twice with Cristian Wunder, and one time each with Semisi Saluni, Dimarco Ventura, Nathan Wu, and Gage Mettler.

St. Bernard’s rolls past Locke in SoCal

St. Bernard’s stayed unbeaten and a lock for the top seed in the Division IV playoffs with a decisive 45-18 win over Los Angeles Metro League champion Locke on Friday night.

Back-to-back touchdown passes from TJ Campbell to Bryce Gratz in the second quarter allowed the Crusaders to build a 25-2 lead at halftime. Campbell also connected with Micha Fontenot-Cornely late in the first quarter following a Locke safety, and later added scoring tosses to Luke Fairfield and Gratz, while Diego Perez scored on the ground in the second half.

Berean Christian routs Ygnacio Valley

Sophomore Justice Jackson ran for 218 yards and three touchdowns, as Berean Christian raced past Ygnacio Valley, 49-7.

Sophomore quarterback Quincy Rhone added 95 yards and three scores through the air for the Eagles, who appear to be peaking headed towards the Division V playoffs.
