Guillory leads YV past Gateway

December 14, 2018

Freshman Niamey Guillory continued the outstanding start to her high school career, scoring 28 points to lead her Ygnacio Valley team past Gateway, 70-35, on Wednesday evening.

Guillory has scored 25 or more points on three occasions this season, but the 28 points scored against the Gators is a new season-high. Her production has been the primary reason that the Warriors are off to a 6-0 start, with an eight-point win over Middletown serving as their closest game thus far.

The first-year standout drilled four three-pointers on Wednesday night, and was joined in double figures by freshman Darolonie Sykes and senior Auxanne Beugre, who had 16 and 10 points, respectively. Sykes has also scored in double-figures in five of the six games this season.

Beugre and Guillory also dominated the glass for Ygnacio Valley. Beugre pulled down 15 rebounds to go with six steals, while Guillory added 12 boards.

Ygnacio Valley looks to keep its unbeaten start going on Thursday night, when the Warriors host Kennedy-Fremont. Gateway fell to 2-6 with the loss, and heads to Mt. Diablo on Saturday afternoon.
