A strong first quarter set the tone for St. Vincent de Paul on Wednesday night, as the Mustangs created early separation and then cruised past Maria Carrillo, 61-42, in non-league girls' basketball action.
The Mustangs (1-0) outscored the Pumas 26-9 in the first quarter, and received a pair of big scoring performances from juniors Alexandra Saisi and Alex Ditzio. Saisi had a game-high 22 points and 12 rebounds, while Ditzio drilled a trio of three-pointers and finished with 21 points and 10 rebounds.
Junior Sophia Licata scored just three points, but was integral in running the St. Vincent offense, finishing the game with a team-high five assists.
St. Vincent will host Upper Lake this coming Monday, while Maria Carrillo (0-1) heads to Analy on Tuesday.
