Gilroy broke open a close game with two runs in the fourth and four runs in the fifth to roll to a 7-1 win over Willow Glen in the first round of the Central Coast Section Division II playoffs Wednesday afternoon. With the win, the eighth-seeded Mustangs (16-12) earned the right to face No. 1 seed and undefeated Archbishop Mitty (27-0) Saturday afternoon (2 pm, PAL Stadium).
Junior Rachel Tomlinson drove in four runs on three hits, including a pair of doubles. Tomlinson's two-run double in the fourth inning extended Gilroy's lead to 3-0.
Sophomore Lauren Castro (5-3) went the distance for Gilroy, allowing just three hits and striking out 11. Tomlinson added a two-run single in the fifth inning to increase the lead to 5-0 and the Mustangs essentially put the game away with two more tallies to take a 7-0 lead into the sixth. Junior Nicole Green and freshman Anna Gamboa added two hits apiece for Gilroy.
Willow Glen ended its season 17-11.
