Sean Lydster rushed for three touchdowns as Gunn broke open a close game for a 33-6 win over visiting Cupertino Friday night in SCVAL El Camino action. The win sets up a showdown for first place between the Titans (6-2, 4-0 SCVAL-EC) and Monta Vista (6-2, 4-0) Friday night in Cupertino. The Pioneers (7-2, 3-2), who opened the season 6-0, slipped into fourth place in the division.
Gunn led just 14-6 at the half, but Lydster broke free for a 35-yard TD run in the third quarter and a 33-yard scamper in the fourth. Marcus Moreno-Ramos also scored on a two-yard run in the third quarter to extend Gunn's lead to 26-6.
Lydster opened the scoring with a 70-yard run late in the first quarter. The Titans also scored on a 15-yard pass from quarterback Andre Guzman to Kevin Sharp with 3:58 left in the second quarter to give Gunn a 14-0 lead.
Cupertino is off this week, but will attempt to keep its slim CCS hopes alive when it finishes the season Nov. 9 against Monta Vista. The Gunn-Monta Vista winner will be the clear frontrunner for the one automatic bid afforded to the SCVAL El Camino champion.
