Quarterback Garrett Johnson threw two touchdown passes and rushed for a couple of scores as host Scotts Valley stunned San Lorenzo Valley, 43-7, Friday night. San Lorenzo Valley (6-2, 3-1 SCCAL) suffered its first league defeat of the season while Scotts Valley (2-5, 1-2) picked up its first league win.
The Cougars, who came into the game having outscored their SCCAL opponents 134-10 prior to the game against Scotts Valley, were ambushed by the Falcons, who raced out to a 30-0 lead by halftime. Johnson had a touchdown pass and a pair of scoring runs (5, 3) in the first half. Ari Wargon also scored on a one-yard run in the first half.
Johnson threw a 14-yard touchdown pass to Ian Howard just 18 seconds into the second half to extend the lead to 36-0 and then backup quarterback Jake Lobo threw a 53-yard TD pass to make it 43-0 with 8:47 left in the third quarter. San Lorenzo Valley avoided the shutout on a one-yard run by Derek Poetzinger with 3:28 left in the third quarter.
San Lorenzo looks to bounce back Saturday afternoon when it hosts Soquel, while Scotts Valley visits Harbor. Both games kick off at 2 pm.
