Cupertino spotted host Lynbrook an early field goal but roared back for a 20-3 win Friday night in SCVAL El Camino Division action. The Pioneers (7-1, 3-1 SCVAL-EC) bounced back from their first loss of the season last week to Fremont to post the tougher-than-expected victory. Meanwhile, the Vikings (2-6, 0-4) have suffered five defeats in a row.
Senior linebacker Matt Shanshoian posted six tackles for losses and running back Joseph Ochsner scored two touchdowns for Cupertino, which led just 7-3 at the end of the third quarter against the stubborn Vikings. Lynbrook took a 3-0 first-quarter lead on a 32-yard field goal by senior kicker Denis Nakelchik.
Quarterback Patrick Johnson also scored on a 13-yard run for the Pioneers, who visit Gunn (5-2, 3-0) next Friday night (7:30) in a key showdown with division title implications. Lynbrook is off next weekend and will prepare for a Nov. 2 game at Harker.
