The Pacific Grove baseball team ended a potential Cinderella run from 16th-seeded Sacred Heart Prep with a 11-0 rout of the Gators Saturday afternoon in a CCS Division III quarterfinal matchup at Saint Francis High School in Mountain View. The win pushed the ninth-seeded Breakers into the semifinals, where they will meet fifth-seeded Carmel, a 3-1 winner over Soquel earlier in the day.
Sophomore Chris Clements went the distance on a three-hit shutout and Pacific Grove (18-10) jumped out to an early 4-0 lead en route to the easy victory over Sacred Heart Prep (16-12-1), which had shocked the tournament's top seed Palma, 6-5, in the first round of the playoffs. Juniors Kyle Czaplak (2-for-3, 3 runs, 2 RBI) and Dean Boerner (2-for-3, 3 runs, 1 RBI) each homered to lead a 12-hit attack for the Breakers in a game that was called after five innings.
