Senior quarterback Michael Machado threw three touchdown passes, including the game-winner in the second overtime, to lead visiting Valley Christian to a 21-14 win over St. Francis in a WCAL matchup Friday night.
The Warriors (5-2, 3-1 WCAL) led 7-0 until the 3:21 mark of the fourth quarter when Trill Hebert caught a 15-yard touchdown pass from Kamalii Akina to force overtime.
Valley Christian took the lead on a pair of long passes from Machado to Collin Johnson, including a 51-yard scoring pass with 1:09 left in the second quarter.
St. Francis (4-3, 2-2) took its first lead in overtime on a 10-yard run by Devin Hurtado, but the Warriors answered quickly. Johnson scored again on a pass from Machado in the first overtime and then the quarterback found Matthew Figone for the game-winner in the second overtime session.
Valley Christian hosts St. Ignatius Friday night (7:30 pm); St. Francis visits Sacred Heart Cathedral Friday afternoon (3 pm).
