Hayward rolled past host San Lorenzo on Friday afternoon, as the Farmers stayed unbeaten in WACC-Shoreline play with a 35-7 victory on the road.
Quarterback Francisco Sedano gave Hayward a lead it would not relinquish with his 24-yard touchdown pass to Alzillion Hamilton late in the first quarter, breaking an early tie and giving the Farmers a 14-7 advantage, which they carried into halftime. Hayward had scored right away when DeShawn Carter returned the opening kickoff for a score, before the Grizzlies tied things a few minutes later.
The third quarter was mostly scoreless until Bakari Sturdivant broke off a 30-yard scoring run for the Farmers to give them a 21-7 lead headed to the fourth. Hamilton put the game away with his 72-yard punt return early in the fourth, and Sturdivant capped the scoring with his 40-yard burst to the end zone.
Hayward improved to 7-1 overall, 4-0 in league play and plays at Tennyson next Friday. San Lorenzo fell to 1-7, 1-3 and plays at Arroyo next Saturday in the annual Helmet Game.
