SAN JOSE - A six-run fourth inning was plenty for Presentation on Thursday, as the Panthers downed Westmont 9-2 in non-league softball action.
Sophomore Madalyn Bowden capped the big fourth inning with her two-out, three-run double. Presentation led by just one run entering the inning, but began to pull further ahead when Julianna Pedone doubled with one out to score Ysabella Garcia for a 4-2 lead. Two batters later, Carolyn Skotz singled to left to drive in Padone.
After a Westmont error loaded the bases, Lindsay Vives drew a walk to force in a run, which brought Bowden to the plate, where she capitalized on her opportunity.
The nine runs were plenty for sophomore Paige Maier, who struck out 11 and allowed just five hits in a complete game effort.
Presentation improved to 15-4 overall with the win. The Panthers are 2-1 in West Catholic Athletic League play, trailing a Saint Francis team which has not dropped a league contest.
