PLEASANTON - Senior Cory Steinhauer's three-run home run in the bottom of the fifth inning provided plenty of insurance to an outstanding group of Foothill pitchers, as the Falcons held off Tracy on Friday afternoon, 4-0.
Junior Seungmin Shim was hardly touchable over four innings for Foothill, striking out eight and allowing three hits. Meanwhile, the Falcons manufactured a one-run lead in the second inning. That lead held up until the bottom of the fifth, when Foothill got a pair of runners on base in front of Steinhauer. He took advantage of the opportunity, delivering with a deep ball that provided a comfortable cushion, the Falcons' only extra-base hit of the game.
Senior Jake Gebb and junior Kyle Bautista both delivered scoreless stints in relief, with Gebb not allowing a hit in his two innings on the mound.
Foothill improved to 5-0 with the win, and the Falcons' pitching staff has allowed just three runs in those five games.
