Senior quarterback Gavin Tomberlin threw three touchdown passes to lift host Half Moon Bay to a 38-20 win over Burlingame in the first round of the CCS Open Division 3 playoffs Friday night.
Tomberlin connected with three different receivers - Hayden Von Almen, Dylan Williams and Jake Quosig - as the top-seeded Cougars (11-0) continued their undefeated season. Tomberlin completed 8 of 11 passes for 178 yards, with Von Almen (4 rec., 87 yards) and Williams (3, 84) doing most of the damage.
Senior Savaun Brown led the Panthers (6-5) with 99 yards rushing and two touchdowns on just seven carries. Senior Alec Meredith added 125 yards and a score on the ground.
Half Moon Bay advanced to the semifinals and will take on fifth-seeded Live Oak (7-4), a 28-21 winner over Sacred Heart Cathedral. The season is over for Burlingame.
