Leland remained tied for first place in the BVAL-Santa Teresa Division with a hard-fought 32-17 win at Gunderson Friday night.
The Chargers (8-1, 5-1 BVAL-ST) led just 20-17 at halftime before opening up some breathing room in the second half against the Grizzlies (2-7, 0-6), who were looking for their first win in league this season. Junior Kyle Anderson led Leland with 68 yards rushing and a touchdown.
Senior Max McCash had a big game defensively for the Chargers, with nine tackles, three tackles for a loss, and a forced fumble.
With the win, Leland, ranked No. 24 in the Prep2Prep CCS Top 25, is in a three-way tie for first place with Branham (7-2, 5-1) and Independence (6-3, 5-1). The Chargers host Branham Friday night while Independence visits Del Mar (3-6, 3-3). Gunderson wraps up its season Friday night at home against Silver Creek (4-5, 1-5).
