A big night from Jaime Martinez on offense, and a stingy effort from the Acorn defense, lifted host Live Oak to a big 35-0 win over Santa Teresa on Friday night, boosting its shot at a Mount Hamilton division title.
Midway through the first quarter, Live Oak (4-3, 3-1 Mount Hamilton) got in the Saints' red zone on a long completion from Jonathan Singleton to Martinez, setting up AJ Gustaveson's 10-yard touchdown run. Two minutes later, Singleton and Martinez hooked up again, this time for a 32-yard touchdown pass, giving the Acorns a 14-0 lead after one quarter.
Santa Teresa (2-5, 1-3) threatened to cut into lead early in the third quarter, when Jordan Cortes and Ethan Janto hooked up to get inside the Live Oak red zone, but a missed field goal was the end result of the drive. The Acorns took advantage by driving 80 yards before the end of the first half, capped by Cole Davis' 10-yard scoring run for the 21-0 halftime lead.
Another Singleton touchdown pass extended the lead late in the third quarter, and Martinez then provided the nail in the coffin with his 40-yard interception return for a score, capping the scoring at 35-0.
With the win, Live Oak stays tied atop the Mount Hamilton with Oak Grove, who beat Lincoln. Live Oak hosts Oak Grove next Friday, October 27. Santa Teresa hosts Pioneer next week. The Mustangs are coming off a big win this week against Westmont.
