Junior Rebecca Faulkner won her 21st game of the year and her teammates backed her with 11 hits as third-seeded Carlmont advanced to the Central Coast Section Division I semifinals with a 6-2 win over Salinas Saturday afternoon at Hawes Field in Redwood City.
The Scots (25-3) advanced to face second-seeded Leland, a 1-0 winner over Santa Teresa, in a semifinal Thursday afternoon (4:30) at PAL Stadium in San Jose.
Faulkner scattered six hits and allowed single runs in the third and fifth to improve to 21-2 on the season. Carlmont broke a 1-1 tie with four runs in the third to take a commanding 5-1 lead. Junior Gabriella Pons was in the middle of the rally with a double, run scored and a run batted in.
Pons, freshman Jacey Phipps and junior Melissa Pekarek had two hits apiece for Carlmont, which will face Leland ace Holly Geranen in a semifinal matchup pitting the top two junior pitchers in CCS. Salinas ended its season 18-8.
