Matt Gorgolinski fired a five-inning no-hitter and junior Neil Sterling drove in seven runs with a pair of home runs as second-seeded Serra defeated visiting local rival Sequoia, 11-0, in a Central Coast Section Division I first-round baseball game Wednesday afternoon.
Gorgolinski allowed just one baserunner, a walk to senior Eli Dugan, and struck out four Cherokee batters to improve to 8-2 for the season. Sterling provided all the offense Gorgolinski would need with a three-run homer in the first inning. He then added an RBI double in the third inning and another three-run home run in the fourth.
Serra (25-6) had just six hits on the afternoon, taking advantage of five walks and several Sequoia errors to push across five runs in the first and fourth innings. Senior Christian Conci had two hits and three runs scored for the Padres, who advance to the quarterfinals to take on seventh-seeded Homestead, which pushed across a run in the bottom of the seventh to defeat Carlmont, 4-3.
Sequoia finishes the season at 16-11-1.
