The Notre Dame-Belmont softball team won its second game in a row Monday with an 11-1 non-league victory over visiting Mercy-Burlingame. The Tigers (10-10) were coming off their first win in West Catholic Athletic League play, a 4-3 victory over Valley Christian on Friday.
Sophomore Lindsey Mifsud led a 15-hit attack with a 3-for-4 performance, including a double, triple and two RBIs. Freshman Danica Kazakoff (3-for-4, RBI) and sophomore Jennifer Donohue (2-for-3, 2 RBIs) were also instrumental in the attack as the Tigers scored seven runs in the bottom of the fifth to end the game at 11-1.
Mercy-Burlingame took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on an RBI single by Marka Ballard to drive home Samantha Dean, who was hit by a pitch. But Notre Dame-Belmont answered right back with two runs in the first and single runs in the second and third to take a 4-1 lead.
On Friday, the Tigers went eight innings to defeat Valley Christian. The Tigers led 3-2 heading into the top of the seventh, but the Warriors scored a run to force extra innings. Marisa Lerma (1-for-3, double) drove in two runs for the Warriors and Marcella Kay (1-for-4) scored two of the team's three runs.
After Mifsud held Valley Christian scoreless in the top of the eighth, freshman Olivia Geronimo hit a walk-off single to left field to win the game for the Tigers. Freshman Sofia Magnani pitched well, striking out six and allowing just three runs.
Mifsud, who was the winning pitcher after taking over in the seventh, led the team at the plate as well, going 2-for-3.
The Tigers look to extend their streak Friday at home against St. Francis. Mercy Burlingame is also back in action Friday, taking on Menlo.
