The Prospect girls volleyball team seemed to have a win over the Lincoln Lions in its grasps after winning consecutive games in dominating fashion. However, the Panthers ultimately were unable to recover from the loss of star middle blocker Emily Oyarzabal as Lincoln prevailed, 25-17, 8-25, 19-25, 25-20, 15-11, at Prospect Tuesday night. The Lions improve to 9-10 (2-5 in the BVAL-Santa Teresa Division); Prospect drops to 8-12 (4-3).
After dropping the first set, the Panthers roared back to win Games 2 and 3 in emphatic fashion. However, Oyarzabal rolled her ankle in Game 4 and Lincoln seized momentum. Following Oyarzabal's injury, Lincoln's Jeanette Castillo forced a fifth game with her accurate jump-serves that erased the Panthers' hopes of a three-game comeback victory. In the final set, the Lions overcame an early five-point deficit to beat Prospect 15-11 to complete the upset.
Prospect looks to recover from back-to-back losses when it hosts Sobrato Thursday night. Lincoln resumes league play Thursday night with a visit to first-place and undefeated Santa Teresa (7-0 in BVAL-ST play).
