San Mateo boys reach quarters with 4-0 win

The San Mateo boys soccer team broke open a close match with three second-half goals to oust Santa Cruz, 4-0, Wednesday afternoon in a CCS Division III first-round match. The fourth-seeded Bearcats (13-4-4) advance to face No. 5 Sacred Heart Prep, a 2-1 winner over Carmel, in the quarterfinals Saturday at noon (Burlingame High School).

Up 1-0 at halftime on a goal by Alejandro Mendoza, San Mateo benefited from a Santa Cruz own goal to take a 2-0 lead in the 47th minute.

Ritchie Molina and Ryan Onizuka added goals for the Bearcats to provide the final margin of victory. Marco Zambrano contributed two assists for San Mateo and Tyler Mucchi added an assist.
