Sophomore guard Jayme Hughes scored 15 points to lead Mountain View to a 44-36 win at Los Altos Wednesday night in a key Santa Clara Valley Athletic League El Camino Division girls basketball game. With the victory, Spartans (18-2, 7-1 SCVAL-EC) not only avenged an early-season loss to the Eagles (13-6, 6-1) but moved into first place in the El Camino Division.
Bailey Polisso added nine points for Mountain View, which seized control with a 15-7 third quarter that extended the lead to 33-24 at the end of three periods. Los Altos, which was led by senior Ideen Seyed (10 points), was unable to mount a fourth-quarter comeback. Freshman Meg Enthoven grabbed 11 rebounds to go along with eight points for the Eagles.
Los Altos looks to bounce back Friday night (6:15 pm) when it hosts Santa Clara. Mountain View is off until February 6 when it takes on Santa Clara.
