Kelli Hayes scored 23 points and Vanessa Garner added 17 as second-ranked Mitty defeated host Presentation, 61-50, Tuesday night in West Catholic Athletic League action. The Monarchs (14-4, 6-1 WCAL) bounced back after suffering their first league defeat of the season Saturday at home against Sacred Heart Cathedral, however the unranked Panthers (8-11, 2-5) put up a valiant fight.
Mitty led by just three, 40-37, heading into the fourth quarter, but the Monarchs finished the game strong, outscoring the Panthers, 21-13, in the final period to come away with the win.
Courtney Danna led Presentation with 23 points and Akilah Jennings pitched in with 11.
Both teams are back in action Friday night (7:30 pm), as Presentation visits top-ranked Sacred Heart Cathedral and Mitty hosts No. 3 St. Ignatius.
